Eugene W. Harris, Sr.

Eugene William Harris, Senior Sunrise: June 1, 1957 Sunset: December 29, 2016 Eugene was born in Selma Ca. to Ralph William Harris and Sadako Omura Harris. Eugene was the middle child of a cultural diverse military family. He moved at an early age to Junction City, Kansas; the family moved back to California when he was seven years old. Eugene was a scholar, he graduated from Luther Burbank High School at 16 years old; he attended Sacramento City College. From an early age, Eugene’s entrepreneurial skills and dedication to learning enabled him to develop as a jack-of all trades. Self-motivated, Eugene continued to pursue all educational opportunities. His love of learning, hard work, talent and research propelled him from his Job Corps Security Guard position to that of an Executive Director mentoring centers throughout the United States. Eugene continued to advance his career as the Center Director of the San Diego Job Corps where he managed a staff of approximately two hundred and provided life skills to over six hundred at risk resident youth. An advocate and mentor for all youth, Eugene’s life mission was to serve these young people encouraging them to finish their high school education and beyond. Even in retirement, Eugene generously contributed his time and energy to his community and family. Eugene was preceded in death by both parents, Ralph and Sadako. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, companion and soulmate of 39 years Alice (Peggy) Harris, his three beautiful children, Eugene W. Harris Jr., Namin E. Harris and Kameko S. Harris; Daughter In-Law Jennifer Harris; embraced as his son Shawn Baker; three precious grandchildren, Jalen, Kalani and Kaden; his loving brother and sister Edward James Harris, and Eleanor Harris of Austin Texas; a host nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. A loving husband, father and grandfather (Papa), forever in our hearts, Eugene will always be loved and dearly missed.
