Deacon Larry A. Potts

Larry A. Potts, 62, was born on February 27, 1954 to Nathaniel and Ramona Potts, in Sacramento, California. Larry was the fifth child of eleven siblings. During his Jr. and Sr. high school years, he lived with Robert and Janice Hilder, and they treated him like one of their own children. He was a good fit for the Hilder family. He was very humorous and somewhat of a prankster. He always kept everyone entertained at the dinner table. Larry attended school in Sacramento, California, and graduated from Hiram Johnson High School, Class of 1972. Upon graduating, he attended Sacramento City College and the Sacramento State University, California. In 1972, Larry and Esther Shaw were united in Holy Matrimony and from this union was born one child, Shannon. In 2006, he married Shirley Blum. Larry aspired to become a professional baseball player. By the time he started junior high school, he was an excellent player, hitting doubles or home runs when he came up to bat. Larry played various positions. During a tournament in Foster City, there were three interested scouts. Unfortunately, shortly after the tournament, he slid into second base and shattered his leg as well as his dream. Larry spent the remainder of his life seeking his divine purpose and call. While on this journey, Larry worked in the retail industry, and later moved to Greenfield, Indiana where he worked for Perlman-Rocque, Greenfield Distribution Center. After many years of searching, he found the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior, and was a very dedicated servant of the Lord. Larry faithfully served in his church as a Head Deacon, Armor Bearer, Building and Grounds Manager, Bus Ministry, and a member of the Financial Board. Larry was well versed in biblical knowledge. He loved his Pastor and church family. Larry was adventurous and enjoyed fishing and camping at various spots in California and Canada. He would often go fishing with his brother, Dr. Ron Hilder, DDS. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. He loved his family very much. Larry died in God’s heavenly hands and is now rejoicing with the angels. He was preceded in death by both parents: Nathaniel Sr., and Ramona; his beloved wife, Shirley Jean Blum; his brothers: Nathaniel Jr. and Turrain Potts, and his sisters: Melody Plummer and Cassandra Baker. He leaves to celebrate his home going his dear daughter, Shannon Potts-Keller, and his five grandchildren: Kiara Collins, Christopher Keller, Kevin Keller, Kaveon Keller, and Ty’anna Thompson; brothers: Tyrone, Cairo, and Vince as well as his favorite cousin Duane Gokey; Sisters: Lawanna, Princel, and Raquel; and a host of nephews, nieces, loving relatives and friends.
