Mrs. Marguerite Williams

A beloved Mother, devout Christian, a woman of Wisdom and an inspiration to all that knew her. Affectionately known as Mama, Grandmama and Big Mama. Her children raised up and called her blessed, her husband also and he praised her. Many women have done excellently, but you surpassed them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain. But a woman that fears the Lord is to be praised. She raised her children to respect, love and care for one another, and always lean and depend on Jesus. On November 4, 1926 in Aniston, Alabama, Marguerite was born to Lucille and Lewis Davenport. At an early age she moved to Mobile, Alabama where she became a member of Hope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church and was a faithful usher. Marguerite united with the love of her life, Ebenezer William Sr. After becoming as one, she joined with her husband and became a member of Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Later due to the closing of Brookley Air Force Base, the family relocated to Sacramento, California in 1967. After raising her children, she returned to the classroom. She studied classes with two of her children, Sampson and Delilah. She earned a degree and became a teacher in the Head Start Program in Yolo County School District until retirement. The family became loyal members of New Hope Baptist Church where she participated in numerous spiritual leadership roles. She remained a faithful member until the Lord called her home. Marguerite was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ebenezer Williams Sr., her parents Lewis and Lucille, daughter Delilah and (Vaughn) Billingsley, sister Fannie Baldwin, brother Joe Crawford, two aunts Pearlie Wright and Sadie Fields; uncle Lumey Jackson.
