Mr. Louis Dennis Hodge

Louis Dennis Hodge, Sr. was born in Summit Mississippi, on June 21, 1934 to Bessie Parker and Louis Hodge. He was their first born. His father died when he was six years old. Louis grew up in Summit, Mississippi where he attended Walnut Street Elementary School, and Pike County Agriculture High School. Louis was an exceptional student, making straight A’s in High School. Louis accepted Christ at an early age in Summit, Mississippi at Triumph Church of Truth. Being very industrious, Louis worked as a teenager developing a strong work ethic at an early age. As a youngster growing up in Mississippi, he developed life long friendships with Billy Gatlin, Ephraim Williams, Julius Young and Hessie Jackson. Louise served in the U.S. Marines for four years. On March 31, 1955 in Reno, Nevada, Louis married Dorothy Martin. They moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they were blessed with a son, Louis D. Hodge, Jr. While living in Michigan, Louis worked for the United States Post Office. In 1961, Louis’s family moved to Sacramento, California. He worked for the City of Sacramento and later worked for a private electrical firm, where he retired as an exemplary employee. Louis was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. Upon moving to Sacramento, Louis and his family united with Greater Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Williams. As a member of Greater Light, Louis sang in the choir. Louis later united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Ephraim Williams. Louis was a faithful member. He sang in the Male Chorus, was a nurturer with the New Membership Department and participated in the Men’s Ministry. He faithfully attended Sunday School and later became a Sunday School teacher until his health prevented him from teaching. Louis quietly moved from this life to be with the Lord following a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his father, Louis Hodge; his mother, Bessie Parker; his son, Louis Hodge, Jr.; and two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy R. Hodge of Sacramento, CA. and his sister, Pastor Barbara Hill, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, brother-in-law and best friend, Dr. Ephraim Williams, Sacramento, CA., sister-in-law, Rose Young, of Summit Mississippi, Goddaughter, Tairena Massie and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
