Mr. Jessie Roberts

Jessie Leon Roberts passed away, July 22, 2020. He was born in Estill, South Carolina on October 15, 1926. In 1945, Jessie enlisted in the Army Air Forces. While in the Air Force, he also received his High School Diploma from Crispus Attucks High School in Hopkins, Kentucky in 1962, while stationed at Lackland AFB (San Antonio, Texas), he met and later married Margaret Burleson. Jess and Margaret decided to make Sacramento, California their home. While living in Sacramento, Jessie was stationed at Mather AFB. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. A career serviceman and Vietnam veteran his tours of duty included overseas locations such as; Japan, Okinawa, and Germany. From July of 1970, until his retirement in October of 1990, Jessie worked the Graveyard shift at Campbell Soup Company. He is preceded in death by his former wife, Margaret (m.1964-1992) and daughter Charlene Abdul-Ali, along with his proclaimed soul brother Paul Murchison. As blessings would have it, Jessie met and began dating Jackie Cochran. After spending many loving years together they were married. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife Jackie Roberts, seven (7) children, twenty-seven (27) grandchildrenand thirty (30) great-grand children. Jessie was very active and had many hobbies and pass times, which included; Bowling (including a perfect 300 game), Pool/Billards, Ping Pong, Dominoes, Pinochle, Poker and Solitaire. He will be missed.
